ANGEL-PIN
FUNDRAISER

******************************

Nov. 22th - Dec. 31st 2007

This is a Berner Angel Pin.  It is sent out by our own Angel, Karen Connors, in loving memory of her girl Britt.  It's the nicest bit of Berner stuff that you never want to get.  Karen hand paints each one, and sends them to everyone around the world when she learns that they have lost a Berner.  We suspect she cries a bit over each one - and she sends out far too many these days.

A lot of time and love goes into creating and sending each pin and this fundraiser is to help alleviate some of the costs associated with these cherished pins.

Story of the Angel Pin:

Karen Connors must have given me over 20 angel pins for my boy Hannibal. Oh, I didn't lose them or wash them or break them, but I just couldn't seem to keep them. I'd go to a dog show and someone would tell me about their Berner that they just lost, and I always figured that they needed the pin more than I did. I'd sheepishly email Karen to let her know I needed another, and she'd send me two or three, and those would vanish with the next show I attended. Finally she found the one pin she knew that I wouldn't give away. She found one that, like Hannibal I'm sure, had a halo that just wasn't quite on straight. She attached it to a special card labeled Hannibal, and I've kept it ever since.

So when you take a look at this little Berner angel, just smile and realize that Hannibal was a brat - he's lucky if he ever even got his wings! Oh, I know he did, because he was such a sweet brat. But you can be sure his halo is never quite on straight either!

Sunny, Berner-Garde 15864, was rescued from a place of neglect by his breeder and given to us after we announced the death of our first Berner, Merlin, to friends on Berner-L in 1996. He was the most magnificent dog. He developed degenerative myelopathy, similar to MS, but lived for more than 3 years more. He was 9.5 when he died and we got our first Angel Pin. . His picture was one of the six first "Long Shots' at the 1998 specialty. Janet painted this beautiful water color portrait from pictures she took at the 2000 specialty in Wisconsin.
